Germany 0:1 Serbia | France 0:2 Mexico

19 06 2010

This is what happened yesterday.

England        0:0    Algeria
Slovenia        2:2    United States
Germany       0:1    Serbia

After a shocking defeat of Spain and France we have Germany humbled by supposedly not so great Serbia. A missed opportunity and playing with 10 does not augur well with the match results.

France could not get their act together and didn’t look a bit like a unit in their outing against the speedy Mexicans the day before. France is unlikely to make it to the next round.

England was frustrated by Algeria who looked sharp throughout the match and held England to a goalless draw, 2nd one for England. Would the English side make it to the next round? Let’s wait and watch.

"We just never hit our level today and it’s not good enough. I don’t know why that was, but we weren’t aggressive enough, we didn’t win the ball back early enough and there was no cutting edge in the final third," Steven Gerrard, England captain.

DAY–3 FIFA World Cup

13 06 2010

Another interesting day of high quality football. Though we didn’t had the stars in the 1st 2 matches played today but the quality of play was superb. There is something about the ‘jubulani’ ball; the Algerian goalie couldn’t see it well and gave away an easy one to Slovenia.

And what happened in the Ghana vs. Serbia is unbelievable. A handball and a gift as a goal to the African nation and may be a ticket to move on into the round of 16. Will Zddravko Kuzmanovic be forgiven and forgotten by Serbia?

The next one is between Germany and Australia. Who is the favourite is anybody’s guess.

P.S. The Ghanan coach didn’t celebrate the victory over his own national side.

2010 FIFA World Cup

11 06 2010

I am writing this while the French and the Uruguayans football army are planning their winning moves and attacks in the locker room. Before they reappear through the tunnel after a well fought first half dominated by the French side and a missed change by Uruguay, I need to slap this on the blog. A confession, I am a football enthusiast during the FIFA World Cup and in the interim period of four years I am nobody. A bit of EPL now and then and salivating at the WAGS – they are something.

I am glad to see some familiar names on the field – Ribery and Abidel. I followed the Frenchmen’s in the last word cup and even slipped from office (to see them go down). I wish someone from the French squad could revive the sublime play and magic of Zidanne.

The football gladiators seem to be emerging from the tunnel. Time to goggle at the television. Hope you too enjoy following your team in 2010 FIFA World Cup. My money is on FRANCE and yours…
